About Me

That's Me!

OK, so the picture is rather out of date...  (It was taken when I was in ninth grade, but, being the Lazy Bones that I am, I haven't gotten around to getting a more recent one taken and uploaded.)

OK, so where do I begin?  My name is Misty and I reside in southern Indiana in the USA.  Several years ago, I graduated from the Indiana School for the Blind as Class Valedictorian.  I went on to attend the University of Evansville majoring in Classical Studies and am now attending graduate school at Indiana University where I am continuing my classical education.  My future plans are to teach/research at the college level.  I have a wide variety of interests including the following:

  • Listening to music--  I enjoy listening to a wide range of musical styles, though my favorite genres are classical (both “traditional” and modernist), world music of all kinds (particularly Celtic and Hawaiian) and new age/ambient/experimental.
  • Reading--  I primarily read works of nonfiction.  Topics range from philosophy and history to science and technology. I often borrow books on cassette via the National Library Services for the print impaired through the Indianapolis Public Library.
  • Singing-- My parents noticed my talent at a very early age and convinced me to join my church's children's choir.  Not long afterward, I began giving solo performances both in my church at at school. Of late, I have joined my university's Women's Chorus.
  • Philosophizing --  I consider myself to be a rather "deep" thinker, though I do try to look at things from a biblical perspective. I believe that, because of man's limited knowledge, he must learn to accept some of his truth by faith but that much of what he believes can be worked otu through reason.
  • The natural world--  God's Creation overflows with infinite beauty and wonder! The ways of nature speak to us of His divine love and mercy.  When I am in solitude outdoors, I seem to be able to think, meditate and pray with a greater sense of peace than when I'm indoors. I believe that I can feel more vividly the Father's presence in everything around me. I am so inspired by it all!  While in nature’s embrace, I am oft taken bhy inspiration to write what I like to call “impressionist prose”.
  • Learning about various modern and ancient cultures/civilizations--  I am especially fascinated by the Ancient Greek and Roman civilizations. I also enjoy learning about Polish history and culture because of my heritage.
  • Foreign languages--  I have been fascinated by language and linguistics for as long as I can remember.  (In my early years, I had even created a rudimentary language of my own.)  The acquisiton and understanding of foreign languages have always come quite naturally to me.  I am particularly interested in Latin, Ancient Greek, Hawaiian, Polish, and Gaelic.  I would yet like to learn Ancient Hebrew and Aramaic.
  • Christianity-- I was first told of the love, peace and forgiveness of sins that I could receive by asking Jesus Christ to come into my life by a student at the Indiana School for the Blind, and was baptized about seven years ago.  Though life, for me, hasn't always been a "walk in the park", I am comforted in knowing that the Lord is with me through it all.

And now, it's time for triviality, i.e., that oh-so-commonly-resorted-to Favorites List!

Favorite...

Color

Yellow

Number

Pi -- because it's so...transcendental!

Day of the Week

Saturday

Food(s)

chicken, steak, various green vegetables

Drink(s)

Personality (as if you couldn’t already determine it!): What, exactly, am I like? Well, I'm energetic, friendly...(modest!)…and talkative...once you get to know me. Upon one's first meeting me, I may seem rather shy, formal and reserved. I am very sensitive to others' emotions and am a good listener.

Personal Goal(s):
I shall continue to strive, in thought and deed, to be unfailingly committed to spiritual and intellectual truth

WHEW!  I guess that's about all for now. Did I mention that I am extremely long-winded? :-)
